The best rhyme I never got to use.

July 5, 2013

Readers of this blog will recognize the above as a page from my newest kid’s book, Twenty-Six Pirates.

For the uninitiated, Twenty-Six Pirates is an alphabet book—a boy version of my 2008 book Twenty-Six Princesses—each pirate, with names beginning with letters of the alphabet, gets a page where a gag is made using a phrase that rhymes with the boy’s name. (Thanks to Simon and Garfunkel for my rhyme scheme)

Unfortunately I had a perfect rhyme for “R” that even I thought would be inappropriate for a kid’s book. But it is appropriate as a post for this, the day after the fourth of July. Presenting, PIRATE RANDOLPH:
